Bhagavanth Kesari Review

Anil Ravipudi directs the movie ‘Bhagavanth Kesari’ starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, blends intense action with a strong message of women’s empowerment. Ravipudi aimed to create a film that appeals beyond Balakrishna’s fanbase, infusing the character with a unique personality by making him an ‘adavi bidda’ speaking Telangana Telugu mixed with Hindi.

Balakrishna, in his signature style, delivers numerous punchlines and reinforces the film’s theme of ‘I don’t care.’ The film also emphasizes women’s empowerment through the character played by Sreeleela, avoiding the usual romantic angles with Balakrishna’s character. Despite these efforts, the movie’s pacing and storyline follow a predictable path, taking time to establish the protagonist’s background and mission.

The relationship between Kesari and Vijayalakshmi forms the heart of the story, with Kesari acting as a father figure to the young girl, encouraging her to join the Indian Army. However, the film’s characters are often one-dimensional, with several men advocating traditional gender roles. The depiction of the psychologist character, played by Kajal Aggarwal, lacks depth and credibility, resorting to light-hearted, unconvincing pop psychology.

The narrative also includes comedic elements, mostly revolving around Kesari’s interactions with the psychologist. However, some of the humor falls flat and reinforces outdated stereotypes. Additionally, the plot introduces a parallel track involving the antagonist Rahul Sanghvi, a typical villain character often found in Telugu cinema.

The movie unfolds with several action sequences where Balakrishna’s character displays invincibility, easily taking on multiple adversaries. While these scenes are initially engaging, they eventually become repetitive and predictable. The film tries to infuse some humor and self-awareness, referencing popular culture and memes.

Towards the end, the focus briefly shifts from the male protagonist to Sreeleela’s character, providing her with a substantial role in the narrative. Overall, ‘Bhagavanth Kesari’ offers Balakrishna a departure from his usual loud and action-packed roles, allowing him to explore the emotional aspects of a father-daughter bond. However, for viewers seeking a more nuanced and fresh cinematic experience, other options might be more appealing.
